- Step One: Ensure that the
surface of your weep-hole is free of any dust or grime. Wire brush
and wipe down as necessary to establish a clean brick surface for
your silicone.
- Step Two: Remove the stainless
steel screen insert so as not to clog with silicone during the
installation.
- Step Three: Apply a bead of
silicone across the top and bottom ends of the back of the mounting
frame. (This is the same side that has adhesive tape)
- Step Four: Remove the
protective paper from the adhesive tape and mounting frame over the
weep-hole. Ensure that the frame is vertical and the same height and
position as the other weep-holes you have installed. The vent has a
wide end and a narrow end on the frame, the narrow end is generally
placed down. This narrow end allows you to place the screen closer
to any protruding bricks or ridges.
- Step Five: Once the mounting
frame is adhered to the wall, run a bead of silicone around the
outside of the frame (between the device and the brick surface)
uneven mortar or bricks will cause voids, these voids must be
"filled in" with silicone rubber. In some cases where
voids are very large, additional silicone rubber may be applied to
the interior of the mounting frame. A seal between the frame and the
brick is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the Guest Control
Weep-Hole Vent screen.
- Step Six: Let silicone dry and
then re-install the stainless steel screen and inspect your silicone
seal and fill in any voids that might have been overlooked during
the initial sealing.
