The Macabee Gopher Trap was devised on the practical principle that a pocket gopher pushes dirt in front of it while tunneling. Patented in 1900, this trap has come to be known as "Old Reliable" with professionals, farmers, and homeowners for over 100 years.

gopher was progressing through pea then cucumber plants. first attempt covering up the area around the trap and bait was untouched. threw a couple of dried garlic bulbs by the hole thinking it might repel it, but they were gone in a few minutes. put the trap with more garlic in front of one side of the tunnel and the garlic was gone and trap untripped. did the same on the other side, and caught the hungry/greedy guy. had no idea they liked garlic.

These are the best. Don't waste your time with anything else.

Very effective

These traps are easy to set and very effective. I recommend pinning them in place with a large nail or spike as I had one gopher drag one off, never to be found again.
Best bang for the buck

I have trapped countless gophers with the macabee traps (old and new designs) and have had very good success on small to medium sized pocket gophers. This trap is one of the fastest to set, is light, and works on new gophers as well as the old smart ones as well.\r\n\r\nI do have two complaints about this trap. First, the jaw closing mechanism doesn't always close tight one some of the older traps or it grabs part of the belly of the gophers on occation rather than the chest. I have lost some gophers to these traps. The second complaint I have is that the jaws do not allow for grabbing large gophers. These traps have worked well in south central Oregon (Lake Country) but in northwest Oregon (Yamhill county) I have had very little success because the gophers are very large.\r\n\r\nOther than those two complaints I would highly recommend this trap for small to medium sized gophers.
