Lack of quality control
Rebecca Huff (UT) | November 3rd, 2025
Unfortunately, it seems like there wasn't a quality control review done for this particular trap. The sliding door is slightly too wide to easily slide up and down, and 1 of the 2 clasps that help to lock the sliding door wasn't aligned well. I had to bend the clasp for it to slip around the top of the trap to lock. I've been able to work around these issues to still use the trap, but was disappointed in having those 2 workmanship / quality control issues.

Good idea a little loose
Michael (CO) | September 21st, 2025
I purchased Duke traps, but they feel a bit loose. On my trail camera, I noticed one tipping over before it even triggered. It’s a good concept, but not worth the money if you have to stake down the 160— the trap should be sturdy enough to stay in place on its own.

Anise Oil paste
Chris Read (Maine) | August 21st, 2025
I was hoping to find the Black Anise Oil paste that WCS used to carry and could not find it so I figured I would try this. This is not as potent as that was and I do not have as high expectations that it will accomplish the attraction the other product had.

Ground hog round up
Eric Simmers (Illinois) | April 17th, 2025
Bought this item to hopefully catch a couple of ground hogs. I placed the food into a stainless steel dish in far back corner of live track. So far I have caught several raccoons and a cat? I put up my trail cam and saw the ground hogs all around the trap but would not enter, then a raccoon goes in and gets trapped, not working quite like described!

Hair Trigger Both Good And Bad
Donald Ellis (Peachtree City, GA) | November 29th, 2023
Deer and / or raccoons trigger my traps every single night requiring me to reset / re-bait them every single morning. Time consuming.
Intimidator
Gary (Wisconsin) | October 5th, 2023
Woodpeckers were making multiple holes in my cedar siding this fall. Placed devices up as recommended, however the birds continued to peck holes. one hole was right underneath a spinner. it seems there has to be some amount of wind for the product to work and maybe that was the reason the birds weren't repelled.
Snare closure issues.
Daniel (Maine) | June 26th, 2023
Needs a much stronger or longer spring. I was inexperienced when I started using this trap - I didn't realize the loop wasn't fully closing to a 3" loop. I had multiple bears get out of it before I realized what was going wrong. Nice trap quality control issue on the snare.

Hasn't caught a squirrel yet
Dave (Indiana) | June 1st, 2023
I've had the tube trap for about two weeks. I ordered the trap to get rid of the squirrels that have cost me about $900 is repairs for chewing on the wiring under my pickup. I've placed the baited trap in four different locations around my yard. So far, it hasn't caught any squirrels, but then, since the trap arrived, I haven't seen any squirrels. They must have been frightened and moved on to the neighbors' vehicles. The trap arrived promptly after ordering, is relatively easy to set, and seems to be well constructed.
Tricky to arm but lethal
Steve C. Q. | May 27th, 2023
Followed advice and info from other reviewers and mounted to 2x4 which helps A LOT in setting and controlling the set up. It DOES make the trap more stable though and a little harder for the squirrels to set off, especially smaller ones. Followed the advice on opening up the trigger pan a little, also smoothed the edge with a file. Didn't loosen the bolt (yet) but did put a drop of silicon spray on it). You really do have to set it with a "hair trigger" but the spring tension is so strong it will not go off unless the pan is disturbed. Seems to work best when pan is tilted just a little bit up-hill (i.e. trigger mech downhill) which increases the leverage on the pan. Have had only 100% kills. Fast. Clean.

Gophers seem to be on to the Gopherhawks that have been thinning their ranks for the past few years. I am trying couple of Blackholes to switch things. After a couple of days, found them full of dirt, but not triggered. I inspect and move traps every few days. Hopefully, will trip up a gopher soon.
