Most Conibear traps I see on the internet have a little latch that flips over to keep the spring compressed. Unfortunately these don't. I do notice that you can buy something that clips to the top of the trap that is a safety measure to keep the trap from accidently tripping.

I have a real problem with ground squirrels where I live. This trap has been the best one I have tried so far. I put it over the holes and if there is a squirrel living in the hole, it gets them when they come out. I recommend getting a trap setter if you do not have really strong hands. It helps compress the spring. Great trap for the price!
