The Gophinator gopher trap eliminates the problem of trap shyness in a number of ways. It employs a powerful torsional type of mechanism which draws the gopher into a pivot point at the front of the trap and applies more than enough power to hold and kill even the largest adults quickly and consistently. The theory here is that if the gopher is killed on its first encounter with a gopher trap, it never gets the opportunity to learn to avoid traps. The design of the trap further reduces trap avoidance by providing the gopher with a clear path to the trigger--if the gopher walks mostly on dirt rather than wire on its approach to the trap trigger, it will be less likely to identify the trap as a potentially dangerous foreign object in its tunnel system, and thus will be more likely to enter the trap. Finally, the trap is constructed entirely out of high temper stainless steel wire, so unlike other gopher traps, The Gophinator will not lose power or trigger sensitivity due to rust.   And it will stay effective through many years of use.

Placement of the Gophinator Gopher Trap
Step One. Locate tunnels by using a 10 to12 inch long screwdriver or other metal rod to probe into soil and feel for the “give” when you hit a tunnel. For best results, probe along the perimeter of a 1 to 2 foot diameter circle around freshest mounds, or probe a transect half way between freshest mounds. Most tunnels are between 4 inches and 12 inches below surface. If activity is located on a slope, the tunnel will almost always be located on the uphill side of the mounds(when cleaning out a tunnel, they push the dirt down hill as miners push out tailings from a mine shaft).

Step Two. Using a trowel or shovel, dig a roughly six to eight inch diameter hole down to the tunnel. Clean out loose dirt from tunnels. If you have dug into the side of a tunnel, you must set traps in both directions. If you have by chance dug into the end of dead end section of tunnel, then you only need to set a single trap. If you feel that tunnels fork in the first six or eight inches into a tunnel, then dig back to the fork, and set traps in both forks of the tunnel. The traps should be inserted tines first and tines pointed upwards into the tunnels. Traps should be inserted far enough that the whole trap including the spring are inside the tunnel. Finally, I recommend a small dab of peanut butter be used as bait, which can be applied on the spring of the trap, or on the side of the tunnel near the spring of the trap. This will encourage the gopher to come through the tines of the set trap, and push his way through the trigger mechanism.

Step Three. After traps are set and baited, use a piece of cardboard or dirt clod to block off open end of tunnel behind trap, and fill in above this blockage with loose dirt so as to block off light from entering the tunnel. Gophers are often caught in the traps within a matter of hours, but for best results, check traps after 24 hours, and reset on any new activity.

One of the best gopher traps I’ve ever used. Usually a catch within hours or less.

Great Size - Preferred Trap
Jaime | January 30th, 2023
Tried two other similar style traps, the Gophinator being between the two in size which was almost perfect for the gopher's tunnel size. I bought another dozen and got 7 gophers out of the 13 traps set in one day. Definitely a good idea to attach a wire or string to stake in the ground, a few times I had to dig down the tunnel for the trap. I used thin rope tied to orange field flags so I could easily find them in the pasture. Easy to wash if needed, metal stays smooth even after being buried in the dirt.

Immediate Impact

My college professor loaned me a pair of these a year ago. Didn't help then but this year the damage these gophers did was much worse. Once I figured that winding the springs around twice was more ideal, I had immediate impact- took out two in one day. Yard is finally gopher-free for the first time in 15 months! \n\nFeedback- Wind that spring around twice to maximize effectiveness. Perhaps putting written instructions in the box would have been helpful to anyone that's never used these? That's why y'all didn't get five stars.

Gophinator Gopher Traps
Ken Podborny | November 17th, 2022
I have used Gophinator Gopher Traps for nearly 15 years. On my 6 acre property in North Texas, I average 75-100 gophers per year. \nEasy to use, most of my Business Clients were taught to handle their own gopher control quickly using Gophinator Traps. I keep some in inventory at all times. They last a long time especially if you rig them with 15 inches of 1/16 braided cable with crimped loops on both ends to prevent trap loss. I highly recommend these traps and also the mole version. Both are great tools.

Best Gopher Traps
Sheets | August 21st, 2022
After using cinch traps all my life, I got pretty comfortable with them. A neighbor had me do some trapping for him and he had this style of traps. They are easy to set (my 8 year old traps himself and can set them), they are small and compact to carry on the 4-wheeler and they work very well. I couldn't go back to cinch traps and had to get some for myself. The only downfall is I have to make my own wire loops at the top of the trap because they aren't long or big enough to put a sturdy stake through the hole on the trap itself. We realized true adulting is when you're excited to buy yourself these nice gopher traps!

Best Pocket Gopher Trap Out There
Russ | November 9th, 2021
I've tried several traps with limited success, until a neighbor got me onto these. \nThe trick is to buy 2, and hook them together on a 3 foot cable or chain. Dig until you find the tunnel spilt, and set one in each tunnel. I've got a 95%+ catch rate with these. \nThey don't rust and they're easy to set.
